"THE PARK is a personal project, started in September 2020, recording the people and the park itself over a 12 month period. The pictures were shot on a mix of film ( 35mm and 120 ) and digital using cameras ranging from a Bronica to an EOS 5D. By using different cameras and formats i was able to see different things on each visit, keeping the project fresh and varied.
The project is especially relevent since it was shot for the most part in lockdown and under Government restrictions of some description. During this period public spaces and parkland assumed even greater importance, often becoming the only form of freedom for people and in many cases offering a lifeline and a sanctuary as rates of mental health soared.
In all i shot thousands of pictures and this is just a small selection. While not attempting to be a complete document of everything that happened during this period i have tried to convey what i witnessed and felt on my regular visits. Thank you to everyone i met, especially those who kindly allowed me to take their picture and who stopped for a chat."
Dedicated to the memory of Josh Downie.
